Policies and Procedures
ADMISSIONS POLICY
Charter Oak Adult Education may admit as regular students only persons who meet the
age of compulsory attendance (18 years old in California).
REFUND POLICY
Refunds are available within the first week of classes, less a $10.00 processing fee plus
the cost of any materials, supplies, textbooks or software voucher codes. Requests for
refunds must be made in writing. Should a class be closed by administration for any
reason, 100% of the registration fee shall be refunded.
NO FEE POLICY
Charter Oak Adult Education will not charge or collect tuition in the following California
Adult Education (CAEP) program areas:
Adult Elementary and Secondary Basic Skills, including programs leading to a high
school diploma or its equivalent,
Programs for immigrants eligible for educational services in citizenship, ESL and
workforce preparation,
Adults, including but not limited to older adults, designed to develop knowledge and
skills to help elementary and secondary school children succeed academically in
school
Programs for adults with disabilities
FITNESS
Participation in fitness classes involves varying degrees of accidental injury risk. Charter
Oak Adult Education is not responsible for any injury to any person suffered while
warming up or participating in any classes for any reason whatsoever. Each student
certifies upon enrollment that he/she is physically capable of participating in the class.
Charter Oak Adult Education recommends that students seek the advice of a physician
prior to participating in any class.
PHOTO RELEASE
Students give permission for Charter Oak Adult Education to use and/or publish their
photograph (or video) for educational or promotional purposes on any social media,
video, print or other advertising materials without compensation. If a student prefers to
opt out, they must inform the admissions office during registration.
DRUG FREE SCHOOL & WORKPLACE
The following Drug-Free Workplace Information is to notify all employees, faculty, and
students that pursuant to the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 (Public Law
101-690) and California Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1990, Charter Oak Adult Education
prohibits the unlawful manufacturing, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of a
controlled substance in the workplace, on school property, or as part of any school
activity. Charter Oak Adult Education similarly prohibits the unlawful use, possession,
and distribution of alcohol in the workplace, on school property, or as part of any school
activity, as well as any other unlawful conduct involving alcohol. For the purpose of this
information, the site for performance of work done consists of all locations where
Charter Oak Adult Education does business. This includes, but is not limited to all
classrooms, satellite school sites, community sites, parking lot, administrative offices,
corridors, storage rooms, and any space to be added in the future.
INSURANCE
Charter Oak Adult Education does not provide student accident insurance nor is it a provider for children participating in Parent Education.
DISCRIMINATION PROHIBITED
No person shall, on the basis of race, color ancestry, national origin, gender, martial
status, handicap, age, religion or political beliefs, will be excluded from participation, be
denied benefits or be subject to discrimination in any education program or activity
except as provided by law or regulation.
